Alpaca Show - 22 March
2009

On Sunday March 22th 2009
a
group of
enthousiastic Flemish and Dutch alpacabreeders will
organise the second international alpacashow in
Hapert, The Netherlands.
The alpaca is related to the larger llama and is mostly kept
for it’s soft and warm fibre. This fibre is one of the main
caracteristics the judge will be judging at the show. In recent
years the number of alpacabreeders in Europe has risen and at
the moment there are about 20.000 alpacas in Europe, the
majority in England, but also in Belgium and The Netherlands
the number of alpacas and alpacabreeders is rising rapidly,
alltogether there are about 1.500 alpacas in the Benelux.
Within the Benelux we can also find some larger professional
farms.
Nowadays we see more and more alpacas on the various European
agricultural shows. There are alpaca classes at most
countryfairs in Britain, but also in France, Germany and
Scandinavia these alpacashows are an annual event. The
contestants on these shows come from various countries. The
2006 German national show had alpacas from over 10 European
countries. After the success of the first alpacashow in March
2008 we decided to host the 2009 show in the Netherlands
again.
“Manege de Lemelvelden” in Hapert is a large riding hall which
makes it the ideal location to host such a large international
event. There is enough space for a large showring, many
alpaca’s and tradestands. Other large events have been held in
the past in the same location, attricting some 1000’s of
visitors to Hapert. On this show we also expect many
spectators. The whole event will be held indoors.
